Will you marry me?

“There is no set plan in life, so get over it!”

You make your plans and then life does it’s thing. What I am beginning to learn is, the less resistance we meet life with, the more effort and flow will actually follow.

This time last week I was stepping off the plane from an eleven-day trip to Italy. An impromptu trip of sorts, we booked our airfare two weeks prior and had our itinerary show up the day of our departure.

It was an amazing trip that I could go on for paragraphs about but I’ll leave you with the most important details… I ate enough pizza, pasta and wine in those eleven days to last a life time and I also received the surprise of a lifetime… I’m engaged!

I very much doubt I’ll be able to erase the look on Jerry’s face when I turned around to see him down on one knee. Although, my initial reaction was he was trying to take a picture up my dress! I soon noticed the beautiful, delicate ring in his hands and knew his true intentions were on the polar opposite side of that thought.

He was asking me to marry him.

Engagements are romantic aren’t they? We watch young kids with great excitement getting engaged for the first time. We look to them with big smiles, excited for them but we giggle at their naiveness. They have no idea what they are getting themselves into because nothing can prepare you for marriage.

So what makes getting married for the second time romantic?

It’s the knowing what you’re getting yourself into and choosing to do it again anyway!

Jerry and I have both been married before. Clearly, since we have both been divorced, we know all the troubles that can come with a marriage but we also know all the benefits that can come with it too.

Getting engaged is not about what hall we are going to have and what dress I’m going to wear. It’s not about the ring he got me or how many months before we “tie the knot.” Getting engaged to us is, announcing to the world we are in this together.

Love is no fairy tale!

It’s down right dirty work! You have to get up every day and choose that person for better or worse and some days you need to choose them again half way through! There are going to be moments and even days you don’t even like who they are being… but most importantly, you need to choose them on those days too.

“Jerry, I choose to take this journey through life with you…”

I have never been more sure about anything. Jerry and I make each other better. We might not always say what each other wants to hear, but we always say what each other needs to hear. We are honest with each other and we keep no secrets. We encourage each other to be our greatest selves even when we ourselves are not sure what that is. Although we may sometimes fight and push each others buttons, we also know how to say sorry and communicate.

I’m in love with Jerry… He makes me love drunk but also drives me crazy, which keeps things interesting! We are good for each other and we balance each other out. No doubt he is my other half.

Everything we have been through has brought us to where we are now, in each others arms. All the lessons we have learned in this life and from our past relationships have made us better. Not only for ourselves but for each other.

So we have decided to walk the rest of this journey side by side. Carrying each other when we can not walk, resting in each others arms when the journey gets rough and lifting each other up when the world knocks us down. With all the gratitude for the days in between when the sun is on our faces and the wind is at our backs.

I love you Jerry xox

Write back soon, love Annie.
